Young people have many experiences of the lived-in world before they start thinking about how the physical world works in physics lessons. Therefore they'll probably have their own ideas about how the world works. Considering these ideas helps learning. This area presents findings from academic literature about the varied ideas children have, as well as strategies and materials for identifying and challenging these ideas in the classroom.
