About IOPSpark
Our mission is to be the best place to start looking for online support in teaching pre-19 physics. We provide authoritative content written by experts in the field and bring together hundreds of teaching activities so you can find the right approach for your class. We provide access to rich content in both physics and physics pedagogy linked to a thriving physics community, giving you the tools you need to grow your teaching expertise.
Why do we do it?
We know that developing your expertise in physics teaching can be a rollercoaster ride. As the IOP, we have the experience to help you find what you need to grow your physics teaching expertise, support your students’ learning, make your working life that little bit easier, and keep you satisfied with the profession.
How did this project come about?
The IOP’s education team has had a long and fruitful history developing resources to support the teaching of physics. For many years teachers were telling us that we had good solid online resources but they could not find them.
Our suite of resources (that included Teaching Advanced Physics, Supporting Physics Teaching and Practical Physics) were scattered and did not provide the best user experience for time-poor teachers, so we decided to create a new online home for all our content: IOPSpark. The site went live in 2019.
How are we doing?
Your feedback on our website is important to us. Please refer to our IOPSpark Product Roadmap for the planned functionality and new content. If there’s anything you feel we could do to improve, or if you have any comments or queries, please contact us at [email protected].
